Sports and Politics Part 1

(First of  a two-story series)

It’s four days before the election. And I have not yet come up with a list on who I am going to vote for. Its actually not just for my personal consumption but also to you my dear readers, majority of whom are sports-minded I assume, so that you’ll have some basis. Since this Sportsmaryosep blogger is a sportswriter by profession, one of my primary conditions in selecting my candidates is, of course, he or she must have done something in sports or, at least, attempted to do so. Of course, it’s not automatic that you’ll get my vote or endorsement. It’s not like you invented sports but you committed genocide that I’ll automatically vote for you.
Here, I’ll try to mention candidates one by one and what they did and promise to do as contribution to sports development in case they end up being elected. But sorry guys, I’ve only limited my blog to those candidates from the Liberal Party headed by PNoy and UNA under VP Binay, who by the way had a face-to waist, I mean face-to-face encounter with recent Manila visitor Yao Ming. I’ve also included some independents. The rest, my apologies if I offended you for excluding you in my list. You are not nuiscance to me.
There should be balance to say the least. In the end, it all boils down to you, using your heart, soul and mind, to decide.
It will be in alphabetical order starting with…

JUAN EDGARDO ANGARA, Team PNoy
Hmmm? Hmmm? Next please.
BAM AQUINO, Team PNOY
Aside from being the nephew of P-Noy (who by the way cares less about sports except for probably playing it in what do you call that..PSP? Wii?) and trying to look like his grandpa, the late martyr Ninoy Aquino, Sr., no sports is running through his veins.
And oh. Is he younger than me?
TEDDY CASINO, Makabayan
Unless you consider surviving tear gas-induced rallies as a sport, he’s not sports-minded.
ALAN PETER CAYETANO, Team PNoy
The one and only occassion I could link the Senator to sports was when he gave a pep talk and cheered the orginal Smart Gilas Pilipinas, then coached by Rajko Toroman, in the Jones Cup in Chinese Taipei two years ago. I haven’t heard from him after it.

TINGTING COJUANGCO, UNA

Do being the wife of Philippine Olympic Committee president Jose “Peping” Cojuangco, Jr. (Whose sports leadership eerily coincided during the debacles in the Southeast Asian, Asian and Olympic Games) and mother of champion equestrienne Mikee Cojuangco-Jaworski count?

JV EJERCITO, UNA
The Ejercitos or Estradas are mostly known for their love of basketball. They even constructed a state-of-the art venue right in the heart of San Juan–The Arena–for those purpose.
JACK ENRILE, UNA
The son of Manong Juan’s last known link to sport was when he reportedly funded a cycling team in Ronda Pilipinas 2013. He said to have this love for cycling. But it happens only last January. I will be a believer on the spot if he continues his sporting deed after the elections, win or lose.
CHIZ ESCUDERO, Team PNoy
He definitely loves shooting. I’ve seen it. Shooting, of course, is an Olympic sport. He also loves Heart Evanglista.
RICHARD GORDON, UNA
Gordon is known for making the Subic Bay look this great the moment the Americans left the country for good. Now, Subic is one of the best spot to hold sports activities like triathlon, duathlon, chess, billiards, marathon and anything under the sun.
